Most electricians lose jobs before a quote is written. The phone rings while you are in a roof cavity, it goes to voicemail, and the customer rings the next sparky on Google. GoHighLevel for electricians closes that gap: it texts back the missed call, captures job details and photos, books the site visit and chases the quote until it is won or dead.

This is a practical setup guide for Australian electrical contractors, from a sole trader with one ute to a six-van firm with an office admin. It does not replace ServiceM8, Tradify or simPRO. It sits in front of them and makes sure the work actually arrives.

What you need before building HighLevel for electrical contractors

Sort four things first. A plan: Starter at US$97 gives one sub-account, which is all a single trading entity needs; Unlimited at US$297 adds unlimited sub-accounts and API access for job-tool sync. Current pricing is on the GoHighLevel pricing page.

A phone number: buy an Australian number through LeadConnector (Twilio underneath) and complete the regulatory bundle with your ABN, or SMS will not send. A2P 10DLC registration only applies to US numbers.

Consent, which is where Australian tradies get caught. Under the Spam Act, marketing texts need prior consent, sender identification and a working opt-out. "We missed your call" is transactional and fine, but safety reminders are marketing, so add a consent tick-box to your form and store it as a tag. The ACMA website sets out the rules plainly.

And Google Business Profile, connected under Integrations so reviews, GBP messages and calls flow into HighLevel.

The electrician job-enquiry pipeline and what fires at each stage

Build one pipeline called Jobs with eight stages. Every enquiry becomes an opportunity in New Enquiry, whether it came from a missed call, the website form, GBP chat or a Facebook lead. The stage change triggers the automation, so your admin drags a card and the follow-up runs itself.

Pipeline stageMoved byAutomation that fires
New EnquiryWorkflow (form, missed call, GBP, ad)Instant SMS acknowledgement; on-call notification; Conversation AI qualifies after hours
ContactedWorkflow on first replyTask to book site visit; booking-link SMS if not booked in 2 hours
Site Visit BookedCalendar bookingConfirmation with address; 24-hour and 2-hour reminders; no-show reschedule text
Quote SentAdmin or job-tool webhookFive-touch follow-up ladder over 14 days
WonAdmin or deposit paidDeposit link, welcome text, job pushed to job tool, ladder stopped
LostAdminClose-out text; lost-reason field; 90-day check-in
Job CompleteJob-tool webhookReview request 2 hours later; Next Service Due date set
Review RequestedWorkflowOne reminder after 3 days; alert on any review under 4 stars

Use the Opportunity Stage Changed trigger for every stage workflow, and put a Remove From All Workflows action at the top of Won and Lost so nobody gets a quote chaser after paying a deposit.

Speed to lead: missed-call text-back and after-hours Conversation AI

You cannot answer the phone at the top of a ladder, and by the time you climb down the customer has rung someone else. Missed-call text-back is the highest-return automation in this whole build.

The missed-call text-back workflow

Trigger: Call Status is Missed or Voicemail on your LeadConnector number. Action: an SMS within 30 seconds, something like "Hi, it's Jake from Bright Spark Electrical, sorry I missed you. Is this an emergency, or can you tell me what you need done?" Then create the opportunity and notify the on-call phone.

After-hours Conversation AI

Between 5 pm and 7 am, hand replies to Conversation AI. Train it on your services, call-out fee and service area, plus one hard rule: any mention of sparks, burning smells, water near power or total loss of supply stops the chat and sends your emergency number immediately.

For everything else it asks job type and suburb, requests a photo and offers the booking link. Multi-van firms should route daytime calls through a ring group so the office picks up first; our guide to HighLevel IVR and ring-group call routing covers that build.

Put the same LeadConnector number on your Google Business Profile so every "electrician near me" call is tracked and every missed one triggers the text-back. GBP messages land in the Conversations inbox and get the same treatment.

The quote-request form: photos and job-type custom fields

A form with name, phone and "tell us about your job" produces phone tag. The photo upload field alone removes a lot of site visits for small jobs, because a picture of the switchboard tells you whether it is a ceramic-fuse relic or a modern board with spare poles.

Create these custom fields under Settings and map them into the form builder:

  • Job type (dropdown): Switchboard upgrade, EV charger install, Solar or battery, Rewire, Emergency call-out, Smoke alarms, Commercial fit-out, Other
  • Property type (radio): House, Unit, Commercial, Strata common area
  • Photos (file upload, multiple images, about 10 MB each)
  • Urgency (radio): Today, This week, Planning ahead
  • Suburb and postcode (short text, for service-area routing)
  • Marketing consent (checkbox, stored as a tag)

Then branch the New Enquiry workflow on Job type. Emergency call-outs ring the on-call phone, EV charger and solar enquiries get a text asking for switchboard and meter-box photos, and commercial fit-outs create a task for whoever prices commercial work.

A site-visit booking calendar that respects travel time

Create a Service calendar called Site Visit with 45-minute slots, a 15-minute buffer either side and a cap of four a day. With more than one van, make it round-robin with each sparky as a user, or one calendar per zone if travel is the real constraint.

Push the booking link in the missed-call text, the form thank-you page and the Contacted-stage nudge. Reminders are not optional: a 24-hour and a 2-hour SMS with a reply-to-reschedule option bring no-shows down to low single digits, which matters when a wasted visit costs an hour of driving.

The quote you sent on Tuesday is not lost on Friday. It is sitting next to two other quotes, and the electrician who follows up politely and twice is the one who gets the job.

The quote follow-up ladder that wins the second look

Most firms send a quote and wait. The ladder is a five-touch workflow triggered by Quote Sent that runs until the card moves to Won or Lost. The full quote follow-up workflow build for HighLevel is documented separately; the electrician version is:

  • Day 0: SMS confirming the quote has landed and how to accept it
  • Day 2: SMS asking if they have questions about the scope
  • Day 5: Email explaining what is included (certificate, testing, tidy-up) and why
  • Day 9: SMS with your next available start date, which creates urgency without a fake discount
  • Day 14: Final text asking whether to close or keep the quote open

Use a Wait step between touches, and let any customer reply pause the ladder and hand the thread to Conversation AI or your admin.

Deposit links and the job-complete review request

Connect Stripe under Payments and create one product called Job Deposit with a variable amount. On Won, the workflow sends the link, typically 30 to 50 per cent on switchboard, EV and solar work; a paid deposit fires the welcome text and a webhook to your job tool. Final invoicing stays in ServiceM8, Tradify or simPRO, which already produce compliant invoices and certificates.

The review request is where the flywheel starts. Two hours after Job Complete, send an SMS linking straight to your Google review form, with one reminder after three days. Our guide to HighLevel reputation management and Reviews AI shows how to auto-draft replies and flag anything under four stars for a human.

Service and safety reminders as recurring revenue

Every completed job creates a future one if you set the date. Smoke alarms need annual testing and replacement at ten years, test-and-tag intervals run from three months to five years, and older switchboards benefit from periodic inspection. Almost nobody chases this.

Set a Next Service Due date at Job Complete based on Job type. A workflow sends a reminder 30 days out with a booking link and follows up once at 7 days. These texts are marketing under the Spam Act, so send only to contacts with the consent tag and include your business name and an opt-out. The mechanics are in our service reminder workflow setup guide.

For a firm doing 300 jobs a year, a third accepting an annual safety check at about A$150 to A$250 is a five-figure revenue line that costs a few dollars a month in SMS.

How HighLevel sits beside ServiceM8, Tradify and simPRO

HighLevel wins the lead and runs the follow-up; the job tool runs scheduling, certificates and invoicing. Two tools with a clean handover beat one tool doing half of each job badly.

  • Lead in, job out: on Won, a webhook (Zapier, Make or the native ServiceM8 and simPRO connectors) creates the job with contact and photos attached
  • Job complete, review in: a webhook from the job tool moves the card to Job Complete and starts the review and reminder sequences
  • One owner per field: the job tool owns address and invoicing details; HighLevel owns tags, consent and communication history

If you are weighing whether you need both, our GoHighLevel versus ServiceM8 cost comparison works through what each does that the other cannot.

What the electrician snapshot contains

A snapshot is a saved copy of a sub-account build that loads into a fresh account. Ours packages everything above.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Sending marketing texts without consent. Reminder campaigns need a recorded opt-in and an opt-out line, or you are on the wrong side of ACMA.
  • Letting Conversation AI handle emergencies. Give it a hard rule to hand any safety risk to a phone number immediately.
  • Forgetting to stop the quote ladder. A chaser after a paid deposit looks careless; remove contacts from all workflows on Won and Lost.
  • Duplicating invoicing in HighLevel. Your job tool already produces compliant invoices and certificates.
  • A form with no photo upload. You will spend half your site visits looking at things a photo would have shown.
  • Skipping the Mailgun domain. Quote emails from a shared domain land in spam more often; connect your own on day one.

Frequently asked questions

Do I still need ServiceM8 or Tradify if I use GoHighLevel?

Yes, for most electrical firms. GoHighLevel wins the enquiry, books the site visit and chases the quote, while your job-management tool handles scheduling, certificates and invoicing. A webhook connects the two so the handover is automatic.

Which GoHighLevel plan should an electrician choose?

A sole trader or single-entity firm is fine on the US$97 Starter plan. Move to the US$297 Unlimited plan for separate trading entities or API access to sync with your job tool. The US$497 SaaS Pro plan is only for agencies reselling the software.

Can customers upload photos of their switchboard through the form?

Yes. The HighLevel form builder has a file upload field that accepts multiple images, and the files attach to the contact record. Asking for photos up front lets you price small jobs without a site visit.

Is missed-call text-back legal in Australia?

Yes. A text replying to a call the customer made to you is transactional, not marketing, so it does not need prior consent under the Spam Act. Include your business name in the message regardless.

How does Conversation AI handle emergency electrical calls after hours?

You train it with a hard rule: any mention of sparks, burning smells, water near electrics or loss of power ends the chat and sends your emergency number. For non-urgent enquiries it collects job type, suburb and photos, then offers a booking link.

Can I send smoke alarm and test-and-tag reminders automatically?

Yes. Set a Next Service Due date at Job Complete based on job type, and a workflow sends a reminder 30 days out with a booking link. These are marketing messages, so only send them to contacts who ticked the consent box.
