GoHighLevel vs ThriveCart is a question I get from coaches and course creators who already own a ThriveCart licence and are wondering whether HighLevel can replace it, or whether they should run both. The honest answer depends on what you sell, how many tools sit around your checkout, and what you are paying for those tools every month.

In this guide I compare the checkout features side by side, work out the true cost over one and three years, and show you when to keep ThriveCart and integrate it versus when to consolidate everything inside HighLevel. All prices are in USD unless stated, and I have noted where each figure came from.

What ThriveCart actually is (and what it is not)

ThriveCart is a dedicated cart and checkout platform. You build checkout pages, add bumps, upsells and downsells, and connect a payment processor such as Stripe or PayPal. It has always been loved for one thing: a lifetime licence instead of a monthly bill.

Around that core, ThriveCart has grown a small ecosystem:

  • ThriveCart Learn for hosting courses, with a paid Learn+ tier for more advanced course features.
  • The Affiliate Centre, with commissions you can set by product, affiliate or tier, credited across bumps and upsells in a funnel.
  • Pro+ features such as subscription dunning, 1-click subscription upgrades and downgrades, subscription analytics and multi-user permissions.
  • Tax calculation and collection, which ThriveCart's blog says is now available to every merchant at 0.5% per eligible transaction (0.35% on Pro+).

What ThriveCart is not is a CRM. There is no pipeline, no opportunities, no two-way SMS inbox, and no workflow builder for nurturing leads. Most ThriveCart users bolt on an email platform, a CRM and often a scheduler, and that stack is where the real cost hides.

Is the ThriveCart lifetime deal still available?

Yes, at the time of writing. According to ThriveCart's own monthly-pricing announcement, the lifetime option remains, and monthly plans were added for people who want flexibility. The Standard lifetime licence is a one-time $495, and ThriveCart's helpdesk lists Pro+ as an annual upgrade at $295 a year.

The old one-time "Pro" upgrade has effectively been replaced by Pro+, and the affiliate centre now sits inside Pro+. Third-party reviews quote conflicting numbers, so check the ThriveCart pricing page before you buy.

What HighLevel offers for checkout and payments

HighLevel approaches checkout from the opposite direction. It is a CRM and automation platform first, with payments built in, so every sale lands on a contact record with tags, custom fields and an opportunity in your pipeline.

The checkout toolkit covers most of what a course creator or coach needs:

  • Order forms (one-step and two-step) inside V2 Funnels, with shopping cart mode for multiple products.
  • Order bumps on the main form, plus one-click upsells that reuse the payment token so buyers do not re-enter their card.
  • Coupons and discount codes for launches and promotions.
  • Payment gateways: HighLevel's help centre lists Stripe, PayPal, Square, Authorize.net and NMI for order upsells.
  • Invoices and Text2Pay, so you can send a payment link by SMS from the conversation.
  • Affiliate Manager with campaigns, custom commissions and a payout workflow.
  • Memberships and courses hosted in the same account.

If you are setting this up for the first time, my walkthrough on building GoHighLevel order forms and upsells covers the funnel step order that one-click upsells depend on.

There are some limits worth knowing. Each funnel step supports one upsell product, only one product per form can be recurring, and PayPal will not process bump products alongside a recurring main product. These are the details that trip people up in a migration.

HighLevel vs ThriveCart: feature-by-feature comparison

On pure checkout polish, ThriveCart still has the edge. On everything that happens after the sale, HighLevel wins because the buyer lands straight into your CRM and automations.

A lifetime checkout is only cheap if the tools around it are free. Once you add a CRM, email platform and scheduler, the "one-off" price becomes a monthly stack.

The true cost of GoHighLevel vs ThriveCart over 1 and 3 years

Licence prices alone are misleading, so I have priced each option on its own first, then as a realistic stack. Platform prices are USD from each vendor's pricing pages in October 2026.

OptionYear 13 years
ThriveCart Standard lifetime$495$495
ThriveCart lifetime + Pro+ ($295/yr)$790$1,380
ThriveCart Pro+ monthly ($87/mo)$1,044$3,132
HighLevel Starter ($97/mo)$1,164$3,492
HighLevel Unlimited ($297/mo)$3,564$10,692

On those numbers ThriveCart looks dramatically cheaper. But ThriveCart only replaces the checkout and, at a stretch, the course host and affiliate tool. You still need email marketing, a CRM, booking and SMS.

When I audit a typical coaching business running ThriveCart, the add-on stack around it usually costs more each month than HighLevel Starter does on its own. If your stack already includes a paid email platform and a CRM, consolidating into HighLevel often costs less within the first year, even after you write off the lifetime licence you already paid for.

Payment processing fees apply to both

Neither platform removes the processor's cut. According to Stripe's Australian pricing page (October 2026), standard domestic card payments online cost 1.65% + A$0.30, GST inclusive.

On an A$497 programme that is about A$8.50 per sale, whichever checkout you use. International cards and currency conversion cost more, so check your own Stripe dashboard. If you use ThriveCart's automated tax calculation, add its 0.5% (or 0.35% on Pro+) per eligible transaction on top.

Keep ThriveCart and integrate, or consolidate into HighLevel?

There is no shame in running both. Plenty of our clients keep ThriveCart for checkout and use HighLevel as the CRM and automation engine behind it.

Keep ThriveCart and integrate when:

  • You already own a lifetime licence and have complex funnels with many bumps, downsells and split tests.
  • You rely on ThriveCart's automated sales tax for international buyers.
  • Your affiliates are established in the ThriveCart Affiliate Centre and moving them would cause friction.

The integration is straightforward. Send ThriveCart purchase events to HighLevel through an Inbound Webhook trigger or Zapier, then tag the contact, create an opportunity and start the onboarding Workflow. My guide to GoHighLevel webhooks and Zapier integrations shows the field mapping step by step.

Consolidate into HighLevel when:

  • You are paying separately for email, CRM, booking and course hosting.
  • You sell services, retainers or invoices as well as digital products.
  • You want one contact record that shows every purchase, conversation and appointment.

For agencies running client accounts, consolidating is usually the stronger play because you can roll the same checkout setup into a snapshot and deploy it across sub-accounts.

How to migrate from ThriveCart to HighLevel

A clean migration takes a weekend for a simple offer and a couple of weeks for a full product suite. This is the order I follow:

  • Audit your products: list every product, price, bump, upsell, coupon and subscription in ThriveCart.
  • Connect payments: link the same Stripe account so existing customer and subscription data stays in one place. See my GoHighLevel Stripe integration guide for the connection steps.
  • Rebuild products and order forms in HighLevel, then recreate bumps and one-click upsells in V2 Funnels.
  • Move courses into Memberships and grant access with a Workflow on purchase.
  • Recreate affiliate campaigns and invite affiliates to the new portal.
  • Import contacts with tags for each product purchased, so your segments carry over.
  • Run test purchases in test mode, then switch your links over and leave ThriveCart live until active subscriptions are handled.

Existing subscriptions are the tricky part. Plan whether to let them run out in ThriveCart or move customers onto new HighLevel subscriptions with clear communication. If affiliates matter to your launches, read my walkthrough on setting up the GoHighLevel Affiliate Manager and payouts before you switch.

The Australian GST note

According to the ATO, you must register for GST once your GST turnover reaches A$75,000. Once registered, your checkout prices for Australian buyers need to include GST and your receipts need to show it.

ThriveCart can calculate tax automatically for a per-transaction fee. In HighLevel you configure tax on products and invoices yourself, which is free but needs care. I cover the setup in multi-currency and GST settings for Australian agencies. Either way, confirm your obligations with your accountant, particularly if you sell to overseas buyers.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Comparing a $495 lifetime licence with a $97 monthly plan without pricing the email, CRM and booking tools around it.
  • Assuming the old ThriveCart Pro upgrade still exists; affiliate features now sit in Pro+.
  • Placing a HighLevel upsell anywhere other than the next funnel step, which breaks the one-click flow.
  • Selling a recurring bump with a recurring main product on the same form.
  • Switching off ThriveCart before active subscriptions and affiliate commissions are settled.
  • Forgetting to include GST in Australian prices once you are registered.

Frequently asked questions

Is GoHighLevel better than ThriveCart?

It depends on what you need. ThriveCart is a specialist checkout tool with excellent cart pages, while HighLevel combines checkout with a CRM, email, SMS, booking and courses. If you are paying for several tools around ThriveCart, HighLevel is usually the better overall value.

Does ThriveCart still offer a lifetime deal?

Yes. As of October 2026 ThriveCart still sells its Standard plan as a one-time $495 lifetime licence, alongside newer monthly plans. Pro+ features, including the Affiliate Centre, are sold as a recurring upgrade.

Can HighLevel do one-click upsells like ThriveCart?

Yes. HighLevel's order upsells in V2 Funnels reuse the payment token from the first purchase, so buyers do not re-enter their card. The upsell must sit on the next funnel step and each step supports one upsell product.

Can I use ThriveCart and HighLevel together?

Yes. Many businesses keep ThriveCart for checkout and send purchase data into HighLevel with an Inbound Webhook or Zapier. HighLevel then tags the contact, creates an opportunity and runs your onboarding Workflow.

Which is cheaper over three years?

On licence cost alone, ThriveCart is cheaper: $495 lifetime versus $3,492 for three years of HighLevel Starter. Once you add the email, CRM and booking tools ThriveCart does not include, HighLevel is often cheaper in total.

Do payment processing fees differ between the two?

No, both use your own processor such as Stripe, so the processor's fees are the same. Stripe's Australian pricing page lists 1.65% + A$0.30 for domestic cards online. ThriveCart charges an extra per-transaction fee only if you use its automated tax calculation.

Does HighLevel handle Australian GST?

Yes, you can configure tax on products and invoices in HighLevel. It does not calculate tax automatically like ThriveCart's paid tax feature, so you need to set it up correctly. Registration is required once your GST turnover reaches A$75,000.
