GoHighLevel vs Teachable is a question I get from Australian course creators and coaches almost every week, usually from someone who is already paying for Teachable, an email tool and a CRM, and wondering why the monthly bill keeps creeping up. Both platforms will host and sell a course. The real difference is everything around the course.

In this comparison I'll walk through course hosting, checkout, transaction fees, automation, funnels, community, certificates and the mobile experience, then cost out a realistic stack on each side. Prices below are each vendor's published US-dollar list prices at the time of writing (October 2026) — they change, so confirm on the vendor's own pricing page before you buy — and I've flagged anything I couldn't confirm.

GoHighLevel vs Teachable: what each platform actually is

Teachable is a dedicated course platform. It is built to do one job well: host lessons, take payment and give students a clean place to learn.

HighLevel (GoHighLevel) is an all-in-one CRM and marketing platform that happens to include Memberships, Courses, Communities and a Client Portal. Teachable is a course tool with some marketing bolted on; HighLevel is a marketing system with courses built in.

If your business is "turn leads into calls, calls into clients, and clients into course buyers", you need a CRM and automation somewhere, and that is where HighLevel pulls ahead.

HighLevel vs Teachable feature comparison

Here is how the two stack up on the features course creators actually ask me about.

Course hosting and student experience: where Teachable still shines

I'll be honest: Teachable's student experience is very good. The course player is clean and forgiving for first-time course builders.

HighLevel's course player has improved a lot over the past two years. Modules, lessons, drip schedules, quizzes and assignments all work, and students log in through the Client Portal alongside any communities you've set up.

Where HighLevel wins is what happens around the lesson. A student completing a module can fire a Workflow trigger, add a tag, move an opportunity in a pipeline, or send an SMS nudge from you. Teachable can pass events out through integrations, but you're then paying for and maintaining another tool to act on them.

If you go the HighLevel route, start with my Memberships and Courses setup guide so your offers, access and drip are structured properly from day one.

Certificates and completion

Both platforms issue completion certificates. In HighLevel, certificates sit inside the course settings and can be paired with a Workflow so a "course completed" event also sends a congratulations email and a testimonial request.

I've written up the full process in how to set up course certificates in GoHighLevel.

Checkout and transaction fees: the hidden cost in GoHighLevel vs Teachable

Per Teachable's fees documentation (current as of its June 2025 plan update), the Starter plan carries a 7.5% transaction fee, while Builder, Growth and Advanced charge 0% platform fees. Card processing is charged on top on every plan.

That 7.5% sounds small until you do the maths. On A$3,000 a month in course sales it's A$225 gone before processing, which is more than the price gap to the next plan up.

The cheapest course platform on the pricing page is rarely the cheapest once you add up the email tool, the CRM, the scheduler and the fees you didn't notice.

HighLevel works differently. You connect Stripe (or another supported processor), and checkout happens through funnel order forms, payment links or invoices. You pay the processor's fees, but HighLevel doesn't add its own percentage on top of standard Stripe sales.

HighLevel also handles payment plans, subscriptions, coupons and invoices in the same place as your CRM, which matters for coaches selling high-ticket programs. My guide to GoHighLevel payments, Stripe, invoices and subscriptions covers the setup.

Australian GST and currency

  • Teachable bills its plans in US dollars, and some non-USD transactions can attract a currency conversion fee per its fees documentation.
  • HighLevel also bills in US dollars, but your Stripe account can charge students in AUD.
  • On either platform, check with your accountant how GST is shown on your checkout and invoices before launch.

CRM, email and SMS automation: the real gap

This is where the comparison stops being close. Teachable is not trying to be a CRM, so most serious creators add an email marketing tool, a CRM or pipeline tool, a booking tool and sometimes Zapier to glue it together.

In HighLevel, that whole layer is native. A typical coach build I set up looks like this:

  • Lead magnet opt-in form tags the contact and starts a nurture Workflow.
  • Email and SMS sequence invites them to a free workshop or discovery call via a HighLevel calendar.
  • Booked calls move into a sales pipeline with opportunity values.
  • Purchase grants course access automatically through a membership offer.
  • Inactivity filters trigger a re-engagement SMS, respecting DND settings.

Every one of those steps lives in one database, so your reporting actually reflects reality. With a Teachable stack, the same journey crosses three or four tools, each with its own contact record.

Funnels and community

Teachable gives you good sales pages for each product. HighLevel gives you a full funnel and website builder, so your webinar funnel, application form, booking page and course sales page all share the same tracking and contact record.

On community, both now offer a space for students to talk. HighLevel's Communities sit inside the same Client Portal as your courses, and access can be granted by the same Workflow that grants the course.

True monthly cost: Teachable stack vs GoHighLevel alone

Here's the comparison I actually run with clients. Teachable figures are per Teachable's plan pages and HighLevel figures are per HighLevel's pricing page, both as published at the time of writing — always confirm before buying. Third-party tool costs vary by list size, so I've left them as ranges you fill in.

For most coaches, once you add a proper email tool and CRM, the Teachable stack costs more than HighLevel Starter on its own. The exception is the creator who genuinely needs nothing but a course and a few broadcast emails.

The trade-off is time. HighLevel takes longer to set up well, and a messy build costs you more in lost leads than any subscription saving. That's why I suggest a snapshot or a guided setup rather than starting from a blank sub-account.

For a wider view of the market, my GoHighLevel vs Kajabi comparison covers the other all-in-one most course creators shortlist.

You can confirm current figures on Teachable's pricing page and HighLevel's pricing page before you commit.

GoHighLevel vs Teachable: who should pick which

Here's what I'd do in each situation, based on the builds I've done for Australian coaches and creators.

Pick Teachable if…

  • You sell one or two courses and don't run sales calls.
  • You want the simplest possible student experience with minimal setup.
  • You don't plan to use SMS, pipelines or multi-step funnels.
  • You're happy on Builder or above, so the 7.5% Starter fee doesn't apply.

Pick GoHighLevel if…

  • You sell coaching, programs or services alongside courses.
  • You're already paying for a separate email tool, CRM and booking tool.
  • You want SMS, WhatsApp and Conversation AI following up leads for you.
  • You want one contact record from first opt-in to course completion.

My personal view: if you're a coach with a sales process, I'd move to HighLevel and keep Teachable only until existing cohorts finish. If you're a pure course creator with one product, Teachable is perfectly sensible, and I wouldn't push you to change.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Staying on Teachable Starter while sales grow, and quietly paying 7.5% on every sale.
  • Comparing course platform prices without adding the email tool, CRM and scheduler you also pay for.
  • Migrating everything at once instead of moving new offers first and letting existing students finish.
  • Building HighLevel courses without tags and Workflows, so you lose the automation advantage you switched for.
  • Forgetting DND and consent settings before switching on SMS follow-ups.
  • Not testing checkout, access granting and receipt emails end-to-end before launch.

Frequently asked questions

Is GoHighLevel cheaper than Teachable?

On the course platform alone, Teachable's entry plans cost less than HighLevel Starter. Once you add the email tool, CRM and booking software most coaches also need, HighLevel Starter at US$97 a month is usually cheaper overall because those tools are included.

Does Teachable charge transaction fees?

Per Teachable's fees documentation (June 2025 plan update), the Starter plan charges a 7.5% transaction fee and the Builder, Growth and Advanced plans charge 0%. Payment processing fees apply on every plan.

Can GoHighLevel host online courses?

Yes. HighLevel's Memberships and Courses feature supports modules, lessons, drip content, quizzes, certificates and paid offers. Students access everything through the Client Portal, which also houses Communities.

Does GoHighLevel charge a fee on course sales?

HighLevel doesn't add its own percentage on top of standard Stripe course sales. You still pay your payment processor's card fees, and messaging such as email and SMS is billed on usage.

Can I move my courses from Teachable to GoHighLevel?

Yes, but it's a manual migration of videos, lessons and student access. I recommend launching new offers in HighLevel first and moving existing students in a planned batch with a welcome email and login instructions.

Does GoHighLevel have a mobile app for students?

Yes. Students can access courses and communities through HighLevel's Client Portal app, and a white-label branded app is available as an add-on. Teachable also offers its own student app.

Which is better for coaches in Australia, HighLevel or Teachable?

For coaches who sell calls, programs or services as well as courses, HighLevel is usually the better fit because the CRM, SMS, calendars and courses live in one place. For a creator selling a single course with no sales process, Teachable is simpler.
