GoHighLevel vs Circle is a question I get from coaches and agency owners who already run a paid community and want to know whether they're paying for two systems when one would do. Both platforms host members, courses and discussions, but they come at the job from opposite ends.

Circle is a community-first platform with marketing tools bolted on. HighLevel is a CRM and automation platform with communities built in. This guide compares features, works out the true monthly cost at small and mid scale, and shows when each one wins, when to run both, and how to migrate cleanly.

What GoHighLevel and Circle actually are

Before comparing line items, it helps to be clear about what each tool was built to do. That design intent shapes everything else, from pricing to how much setup you'll own.

Circle.so in one paragraph

Circle is a hosted community platform. You get spaces for discussions, member profiles, events, live rooms, courses and a paywall, all under your own domain. Its strength is a polished member experience that feels like a modern social app rather than a forum.

Circle has since added workflows, AI agents and an Email Hub, but they sit around the community rather than running the business.

HighLevel in one paragraph

HighLevel (GoHighLevel) is an all-in-one sales and marketing platform. Contacts, pipelines, funnels, email and SMS, calendars, Workflows and payments live in one sub-account, and Communities and courses sit inside the Memberships area.

If you want the build-level detail, our GoHighLevel communities guide walks through groups, channels and access rules step by step. The short version: in HighLevel, every community member is also a CRM contact, with tags, custom fields and pipeline stages you can automate against.

GoHighLevel vs Circle feature comparison

Here's how the two stack up across the eight areas that matter most to a paid community business.

AreaCircleHighLevel
CommunitiesBest-in-class spaces, feeds, profiles, DMs and member directoryGroups and channels inside Memberships; solid but simpler
CoursesCourses inside spaces with lessons and dripFull course builder with drip, offers, quizzes and certificates
Events and liveNative events, live streams and live roomsCalendars for bookings; live sessions usually via Zoom or similar
PaymentsPaywalls via Stripe with a plan-based transaction feeStripe and other processors, invoices, subscriptions, order forms
Email and CRMEmail Hub (add-on on some plans); member data, not a sales CRMNative CRM, pipelines, email, SMS and conversations inbox
AutomationCommunity workflows; unlimited on ScaleWorkflows with triggers, filters, waits and branching across every channel
Branded appCircle Plus only (custom pricing)White-label mobile app option for agencies, sold separately
White-label and agencySingle brand per communitySub-accounts, snapshots, white-label and SaaS mode on Agency Pro

The pattern is clear. Circle wins on the member experience inside the community. HighLevel wins on everything that happens before someone joins and after they churn.

We've seen the same split in our HighLevel vs Skool comparison, though Circle is noticeably more feature-rich than Skool on events and customisation.

The true cost of HighLevel vs Circle.so in 2026

Sticker price is only half the story. Circle charges a percentage on every sale processed through its paywall, and that fee is added on top of Stripe's own processing fees, according to Circle's help centre on paywall transaction fees.

What each plan costs on paper

These are the published prices I confirmed in this run. Always re-check Circle's pricing page and HighLevel's pricing page before you commit, because both companies adjust plans regularly.

PlanPublished price (USD)Platform transaction fee
Circle Professional$89/mo annual, $99/mo monthly2%
Circle Business$199/mo annual, $219/mo monthly1%
Circle Scale$419/mo (annual)1%
Circle PlusCustom, via sales0.5%
HighLevel Starter$97/mo or $970/yrNot listed as a plan fee; processor fees apply
HighLevel Unlimited$297/mo or $2,970/yrNot listed as a plan fee; processor fees apply
HighLevel Agency Pro$497/mo or $4,970/yrNot listed as a plan fee; processor fees apply

Sources: Circle pricing and comparison pages, and HighLevel's pricing page, both checked October 2026. HighLevel bills telephony, email sending and AI usage separately through its wallet, so budget for that too.

Worked example at small and mid scale

To make the fee visible, here's my own illustrative maths using the annual-billing prices above. It excludes Stripe fees, which you'd pay on either platform, and HighLevel wallet usage.

ScenarioCircle ProfessionalCircle BusinessHighLevel
Small: US$5,000/mo in member revenue$89 + $100 fee = $189$199 + $50 fee = $249Starter $97
Mid: US$30,000/mo in member revenue$89 + $600 fee = $689$199 + $300 fee = $499Unlimited $297

The gap widens as revenue grows. At mid scale, the transaction fee becomes Circle's biggest line item, larger than the plan itself.

The costs that don't show up on the pricing page

Most Circle communities I audit also pay for a separate CRM or email tool, a funnel builder and a scheduling app. Once you add those, the comparison is no longer Circle versus HighLevel, but Circle plus three subscriptions versus one HighLevel account.

We ran the same stack maths in our Kajabi true-cost breakdown, and the conclusion holds: consolidation savings usually outweigh any single plan price.

Circle sells a better room. HighLevel sells the whole building, including the front door, the sales desk and the follow-up.

When Circle is the better community platform

HighLevel doesn't win every time. Circle is the right call in a few clear situations.

  • The community is the product. If members pay mainly for discussion, networking and peer support, Circle's feeds, profiles and DMs feel more engaging.
  • You run lots of live events. Native live streams and live rooms keep everything in one place without Zoom links.
  • You want a branded app and have the budget. Circle Plus delivers a white-labelled app that Circle submits and maintains.
  • Your marketing already lives elsewhere and works. If your funnels and CRM are settled, Circle can slot in as the member home.

When GoHighLevel beats Circle

HighLevel pulls ahead the moment the community is one part of a bigger customer journey. That's most coaching, consulting and agency businesses.

  • You sell from funnels and calls. Leads, booked calls, proposals and payments flow into the same contact record that later joins the community.
  • You need behaviour-based follow-up. A Workflow can tag inactive members, send an SMS nudge and create a task for your coach automatically.
  • You run courses as a core offer. See our memberships and courses setup walkthrough for how offers, drip and access tags connect.
  • You're an agency. Snapshots let you deploy a full community-plus-funnel build into each client sub-account.
  • Revenue is growing. A flat plan price scales better than a percentage of every sale.

Payments are the quiet advantage here. Our guide to HighLevel payments, invoices and subscriptions covers how recurring memberships, failed-payment Workflows and access removal tie together.

Using GoHighLevel and Circle together

Plenty of businesses keep Circle for the member experience and use HighLevel as the engine. It works well if you're disciplined about which system owns what.

A clean split of responsibilities

  • HighLevel owns lead capture, funnels, checkout, CRM, pipelines and all email and SMS follow-up.
  • Circle owns discussions, events, member profiles and in-community notifications.
  • The bridge is a webhook or a connector such as Zapier or Make, triggered when a payment succeeds or a tag is added.

In practice, I set a HighLevel Workflow to fire on "Order submitted" or a tag like circle-member, then send the contact to Circle via a webhook action. Cancellation runs the same path in reverse.

The trade-off is that you pay for both platforms and maintain an integration. If HighLevel handles checkout, also confirm whether you still need Circle's paywall at all, because that's where the percentage fee applies.

Migrating from Circle to HighLevel

If you consolidate, plan the move like a product launch, not a weekend job.

A practical migration sequence

  • Export members from Circle as a CSV and import them into HighLevel with a tag such as migrated-circle and custom fields for join date and plan.
  • Rebuild structure first. Recreate spaces as Community groups and channels, and courses as membership products, before inviting anyone.
  • Move billing deliberately. Active subscriptions don't transfer by export; coordinate with Stripe and your members so nobody is double-charged.
  • Run both for a short overlap. Set Circle to read-only, pin a "we've moved" post, and send a Workflow-driven welcome sequence from HighLevel.
  • Archive, don't delete. Keep a Circle export of key threads in case members ask for old resources.

Expect discussion history and reactions not to come across in a usable form. Tell members upfront what's moving and what isn't, and most will happily follow.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Comparing plan prices only and ignoring Circle's percentage fee on paywall sales.
  • Running Circle's paywall and HighLevel checkout at the same time, so members land in two billing systems.
  • Forgetting HighLevel wallet costs for SMS, email sending and AI when budgeting.
  • Migrating members before the HighLevel community, courses and access tags are fully tested.
  • Assuming a branded app is included on mid-tier plans of either platform.
  • Building integrations without a cancellation path, leaving churned members with access.

Frequently asked questions

Is GoHighLevel cheaper than Circle?

At small scale the plan prices are close, but Circle adds a 2% fee on Professional and 1% on Business and Scale for paywall sales, per Circle's pricing page in October 2026. HighLevel's plans are flat at US$97, US$297 or US$497 a month, plus wallet usage. As your member revenue grows, HighLevel usually works out cheaper, especially once you count the CRM and email tools Circle users pay for separately.

Does Circle charge transaction fees?

Yes. Circle's pricing page (October 2026) lists a 2% transaction fee on Professional, 1% on Business and Scale, and 0.5% on Circle Plus. Circle's help centre notes these fees are charged on top of Stripe's processing fees.

Can HighLevel replace Circle for a paid community?

For most coaching and course businesses, yes. HighLevel Communities handle groups, channels and member access, and every member is a CRM contact you can automate against. If your members mainly pay for a rich social experience and frequent native live streams, Circle still offers the more polished room.

Which platform has better automation?

HighLevel, by a wide margin. Its Workflows run across email, SMS, pipelines, tags, payments and calendars, while Circle's workflows focus on actions inside the community. Circle has added an Email Hub and AI agents, but it isn't a full marketing automation platform.

Can I use GoHighLevel and Circle together?

Yes. A common setup has HighLevel handle funnels, checkout and follow-up, then a Workflow sends new buyers to Circle via a webhook or a connector such as Zapier. Build the cancellation path at the same time so churned members lose access automatically.

Does either platform include a branded mobile app?

Circle's branded app is only available on Circle Plus, which is custom-priced through its sales team. HighLevel offers a white-label mobile app option for agencies that is sold separately from the core plans. Neither includes a fully branded app on its entry plan.

How hard is it to migrate from Circle to HighLevel?

Member data exports cleanly as a CSV, and courses can be rebuilt as membership products. Discussion history and active subscriptions need more care, so plan a short overlap period and coordinate billing through Stripe. Most migrations take a few weeks when done properly.
