Getting your GoHighLevel store shipping rates and tax settings right is the difference between a checkout that quietly makes money and one that leaks margin on every order. Most Australian store owners set up products first, then discover at the first real order that delivery was free to Perth and GST was added on top of a price that already included it.

This guide walks through how I configure shipping zones, rates, free-shipping thresholds and GST inside HighLevel Payments for Australian businesses. It covers how those settings flow through to order forms, invoices, coupons and inventory, and how to test the whole thing before a customer ever sees it.

Where HighLevel shipping and tax settings actually live

Both settings sit inside the sub-account, not the agency view. Head to Payments → Settings and you will find separate areas for Shipping & Delivery and for Taxes.

If you have not built the store itself yet, start with our walkthrough on setting up a GoHighLevel ecommerce store, then come back here once products are loaded.

What you need before you start

  • A connected payment provider (Stripe is the most common for Australian accounts).
  • Your products created under Payments → Products, with physical products marked as requiring shipping.
  • Product weights entered, if you plan to use weight-based rates.
  • Your ABN and GST registration status confirmed.
  • A clear list of where you ship: metro only, Australia-wide, or international.

Setting up GoHighLevel store shipping rates by zone

HighLevel uses shipping zones to group delivery regions that share the same pricing. According to HighLevel's help documentation, you go to Payments → Settings → Shipping & Delivery, click Add Zone, name it, select countries and the relevant states or provinces, then click Add Rate.

For Australian businesses I usually start with three or four zones rather than one per state.

A sensible starting structure for Australian stores

Zone nameRegions selectedTypical rate logic
East Coast MetroNSW, VIC, QLD, ACTFlat rate, free above a threshold
Rest of AustraliaSA, WA, TAS, NTHigher flat rate or weight-based
Local DeliveryAustralia, restricted to listed postcodesLow flat rate or free
InternationalSelected countries onlyWeight-based, no free threshold

HighLevel's documentation also notes that a zone can be restricted to specific ZIP or postcodes. That is how you build a genuine local-delivery option for, say, inner-city Brisbane without offering it to the whole state.

Flat, price-based and weight-based shipping rates explained

Inside each zone you add one or more rates. HighLevel supports conditional pricing based on the order amount and conditional pricing based on product weight, per its help centre.

Rate typeHow it worksBest for
Flat rateOne fixed charge for every order in the zoneSmall, similar-sized products
Order-amount basedCharge changes with cart subtotal bandsFree-shipping thresholds, tiered delivery
Weight basedCharge changes with total product weightHeavy or mixed-size catalogues
Live carrier ratesPulled from a carrier integration at checkoutHigh volume, variable parcel sizes

Building a free-shipping threshold

Free shipping is simply an order-amount rule with a zero charge. You create one rate for orders below your threshold (for example, $12.95 under $100) and a second rate of $0 for orders at or above it.

Set the threshold slightly above your average order value, not below it. The goal is to nudge customers into adding one more item, not to give away delivery on orders that were already going to happen.

Weight-based rates without the headaches

Weight-based rates only work if every shippable product has an accurate weight. Missing weights are the most common reason I see a $3 sticker ship to Darwin for the same price as a 5 kg box.

Carrier options and live shipping rates in HighLevel

HighLevel's changelog and help centre document a ShipStation integration for ecommerce stores that syncs orders, shows live carrier rates at checkout and generates labels. A Shippo integration also exists, though HighLevel's own feedback board has threads about live-rate limitations, so check what is currently supported for your store builder before relying on it.

Whichever integration you use, confirm your Australian carriers are available and your origin postcode is correct.

Shipping and tax are set up in different places, but customers only ever see one number. Always test them together.

GHL ecommerce tax setup for Australian GST

According to the ATO, GST is a 10% tax on most goods and services sold in Australia, and you must register once your GST turnover reaches $75,000 or more. The ATO's guide on registering for GST explains the rules and timeframes.

If you are not registered for GST, do not charge it. I regularly inherit sub-accounts where a snapshot left a 10% tax switched on.

Creating the GST tax rate

In Payments → Settings → Taxes, HighLevel lets you add a tax with a name, rate, optional description, tax ID number and tax agency. For Australia I set it up like this:

  • Name: GST
  • Rate: 10%
  • Tax ID: your ABN, so it can appear on invoices and receipts
  • Agency: Australian Taxation Office

Then attach the tax to each taxable product. GST-free items, such as certain basic foods or some health products, should not carry the tax. Your accountant should confirm which of your products fall into that category.

Inclusive versus exclusive pricing

HighLevel has a global “Include Tax in Prices” setting under Taxes. When set to Yes, the product price you enter is the final price, and the tax amount is calculated out of it. When set to No, tax is added on top at checkout. Its help centre notes you can also define this at product level.

SettingYou enterCustomer paysSuits
Include Tax in Prices: Yes$110$110 (GST of $10 shown)Retail and consumer stores
Include Tax in Prices: No$100$110 ($100 + $10 GST)B2B quotes and invoices

Australian consumers expect the shelf price to be the price they pay. For a consumer-facing store, inclusive pricing is almost always the right default. B2B service businesses invoicing other companies often prefer exclusive pricing so the GST line is obvious.

If you also sell overseas or in multiple currencies, read our guide on handling multi-currency and GST in GoHighLevel before you mix domestic and international tax rules.

Automatic tax calculation

HighLevel also supports automatic tax calculation through Stripe Tax, which requires a valid tax category on every product. For a purely Australian store with one GST rate, manual setup is usually simpler to audit.

How HighLevel shipping and tax settings flow through order forms, invoices and coupons

HighLevel's help centre states that its tax inclusive/exclusive setting works across Funnels, Payment Links, Invoices, Estimates and Ecommerce Stores. That consistency is useful, but it also means one wrong global setting breaks every checkout at once.

Order forms and funnels

If you sell the same physical product through a funnel order form as well as the store, check that the product's tax and shipping requirements behave the same in both. Our guide to GoHighLevel order forms and upsells covers how one-click upsells add items after the first payment, which can change both weight and GST totals.

Invoices

Manual invoices pull the tax you attach to each line item. Make sure your business details and ABN are set so the invoice can serve as a tax invoice for your customer.

Coupons and discounts

Coupons reduce the cart subtotal, which can push an order below your free-shipping threshold. Decide deliberately whether that is acceptable, then test it. Our walkthrough on setting up coupons and discount codes explains how codes are applied in HighLevel.

Inventory

Variants affect weight and price, so give heavier variants their own weight. For stock control itself, see our guide to managing store inventory and stock.

Testing checkout before you take a real order

Put your payment provider into test mode (for funnels, HighLevel has a Payment Mode toggle between Live and Test in funnel settings) and run a scripted set of orders.

  • One order below the free-shipping threshold to each zone.
  • One order above the threshold to confirm $0 delivery.
  • One heavy order to check the weight bands.
  • One order to a postcode outside your local-delivery list.
  • One order with a coupon that drops it under the threshold.
  • One order containing a GST-free product mixed with a taxable one.

After each test, open the order and the receipt. Check that the subtotal, shipping, GST and total all match what you calculated on paper. HighLevel's help article on shipping and delivery rates for ecommerce stores is worth keeping open while you test.

Pay particular attention to whether GST is being applied to the shipping charge in the way your accountant expects. Platforms handle this differently, so verify it on a real test receipt rather than assuming.

This guide is general information, not tax advice. Please confirm your GST treatment, including on shipping and any GST-free items, with your accountant before going live.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Leaving a 10% tax switched on from a snapshot when the business is not GST registered.
  • Entering GST-inclusive prices while “Include Tax in Prices” is set to No, so customers are charged GST twice.
  • Forgetting product weights, which makes weight-based rates fall back to the cheapest band.
  • Creating one zone per state, then never updating them when courier prices rise.
  • Not testing coupons against the free-shipping threshold.
  • Going live without a full test order to every zone.

Frequently asked questions

Where do I set shipping rates in a GoHighLevel store?

Shipping is configured in the sub-account under Payments, then Settings, then Shipping and Delivery. You add a zone, choose the countries and states it covers, then add one or more rates to that zone.

Can I offer free shipping over a certain order value in HighLevel?

Yes. HighLevel supports conditional rates based on the order amount, so you can charge a fee below a threshold and set a zero rate at or above it. Test it with coupons applied, because discounts can drop an order below the threshold.

Does HighLevel support weight-based shipping?

Yes. HighLevel's help documentation describes conditional pricing based on product weight for specific zones. It only works accurately if every shippable product has a weight entered.

How do I add GST in GoHighLevel?

Go to Payments, then Settings, then Taxes, and add a tax named GST at 10 percent. Attach it to each taxable product and leave it off any GST-free items. Only charge GST if your business is registered for GST.

Should Australian stores use tax-inclusive or tax-exclusive pricing?

Consumer-facing Australian stores usually use tax-inclusive pricing, because shoppers expect the displayed price to be the price they pay. B2B businesses invoicing other companies often prefer exclusive pricing. HighLevel lets you set this globally and override it per product.

Can HighLevel show live carrier shipping rates?

HighLevel offers carrier integrations, including ShipStation, that can display live carrier rates at checkout. Check which carriers and store builders are supported for your account before relying on live rates.

Do I need to charge GST on shipping?

The GST treatment of delivery charges depends on what you sell and your circumstances. Confirm the correct treatment with your accountant, then run a test order in HighLevel to check the receipt shows GST on shipping the way you expect.

How do I test my store checkout without real payments?

Put your payment provider into test mode and place test orders to each shipping zone. Check every receipt for the correct subtotal, shipping, GST and total before switching back to live mode.
